What is the best way to remove the data analysis bottleneck?
The development of our bioinformatics as a service model started when the founders of Genevia Technologies still worked in a bioinformatics core laboratory in Finland. New commercial microarray and NGS service laboratories resulted in a large number of biology research groups gaining easy access to biological big data.
At the time, there was no easily available access to commercial data analytics. Most research groups were hesitant to hire a bioinformatician, because of the costs and the risks involved, so they would opt for academic collaboration. Publishing collaboration papers is how we originally learnt about different fields of life science, and the different needs of each type of research group.
It's my personal mission to enable all life science researchers take full advantage of their complex data.

Bioinformatics is a bottleneck slowing down many great research groups.
The struggle that we observed researchers having with ever increasing amounts of data gave us the idea of founding a professional bioinformatics service company.
Through trial and error, we already knew the type of support from which researchers actually benefited the most (and it was not just producing a table of p-values).
We envisioned a model that could offer comprehensive support all the way from the initial experimental design stage to answering reviewer comments or finalizing a commercial product - a true scientific collaboration.
Starting a bioinformatics project
In bioinformatics, one size does not fit all.

Next, we present a tailored project plan detailing the suggested analyses and deliverables, with information on the costs and schedule so as to enable you to make an informed purchase decision.
Planning and acquiring NGS measurements
We help you design the measurements to test your hypotheses.
We design an optimal sequencing experiment for you and, where necessary, identify the most convenient and cost-effective sequencing service provider.
Cost-efficient experiments are designed together with you in order to ensure that you end up with data that allows high-quality downstream analysis.
As an example, in our bioinformatics as a service model (BaaS) we can help you with the selection of proper controls, replicates and NGS platforms. We can also define the best sequencing kits using additional parameters such as sequencing depth, and help you find the best possible sequencing service provider. If you have already acquired the data, we can move on to the next step.
Getting the data analyzed
Good data analysis is really about the human work element — making informed methodological decisions, adapting the project plan flexibly and communicating efficiently.
Data Analysis begins with a comprehensive quality control in order to ensure that the data are suitable for the planned analyses and meet the standards of high-impact research. If we pick up on any quality issues with the data, we will discuss them with you and work together to agree on how to deal with them.
The next step is to branch an existing data analysis pipeline for your project that we start customizing in order to produce everything you have specified. During the project, our project manager keeps you up to date and delivers the results as they are produced. The project goals may be changed based on the findings during the project.
Presenting the results
We want to make sure that the outcome of the bioinformatics as a service project is useful for you.
We present the results via a teleconference to make sure you fully understand everything we have done, and we can then discuss the interpretation together. We then deliver the project report containing all figures, tables, descriptions and conclusions. We strive to deliver results that mean you will not have to reanalyze or reformat anything yourself.
