Expression of a transcript and abundance of the corresponding protein in ten tissue samples
Running mRNA-sequencing and protein mass spectrometry on the same samples allows for comparison of the transcript expression and protein abundance of all genes. For the gene studied here, we see significant correlation between the mRNA and protein levels. Strong correlation enables the use of one data type as a proxy for the other in applications such as molecular diagnostics. Low correlation between the mRNA and protein levels may indicate strong post transcriptional or -translational regulation of the gene in question.
