Jane Mwangi

Bioinformatician

Always chasing patterns and stories hidden in data, Jane is a bioinformatician who thrives at the intersection of biology and computation. With roots in microbiology and a deep dive into bioinformatics, she brings together the precision of wet lab techniques with the power of computational analysis. Her journey began with exploring the microbial world, eventually leading her to unravel viral expression patterns in SARS-CoV-2 through transcriptomic data during her master’s studies.

Before joining Genevia Technologies, Jane was deep in the world of malaria genomics, applying population genomics techniques to better understand malaria vectors, fine-tuning variant calling pipelines, and scaling them on high-performance computing systems. Alongside research, she’s been passionate about knowledge-sharing, contributing to bioinformatics training programs aimed at building scientific capacity across Africa.

Jane’s freelancing days were filled with statistical genomics, especially association analyses, a field she’s keen to grow in as she maps out her next scientific adventures.

When she’s not decoding genomes, you’ll probably find her trying out new recipes in the kitchen or dancing her heart out to salsa beats.
